Nnadi recently reiterated this position when he delivered a $54,330 bribe to the Lagos Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Michael Wetkas.
A shipment of Tramadol was falsely declared as electrical appliances, with a declared value exceeding N856 million. The cash was offered to compromise Customs officers.
The Controller emphasized that this act constitutes a clear violation of Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCAA) 2023.
He commended officers who maintained their commitment to ethical and lawful conduct in the interest of national security.
He called for ongoing compliance from port users, reminding them that the NCS, in collaboration with sister agencies like the EFCC, will continue to thwart criminal activities in the port.
Nnadi expressed gratitude to Comptroller Oloyede, under whose leadership the seizure was accomplished, describing him as a commendable example within the NCS.
He noted that the two suspects linked to the containers are currently under investigation by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for potential prosecution.
Wetkas, upon receiving the cash, hailed the achievement as a victory for the country and all security agencies. He particularly praised the NCS officers who played a crucial role in the success.
Wetkas also commended the Comptroller General for the letter of commendation appreciating the six Customs officers who resisted pressure and inducements from the owners of the illicit drugs.
He pledged ongoing collaboration between the EFCC, NCS, and sister agencies, emphasizing the end of working without collaboration.
