The explosion occurred amidst reported attempts by certain lawmakers to impeach Governor Fubara. Suspected arsonists reportedly threw an explosive into the assembly complex at around 9:25 pm on October 30, 2023, leading to a fire. The first to third defendants sought bail, citing health concerns.

Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, ruling on the bail application, rejected it on Monday, emphasizing that the charges against the defendants were of a serious nature, involving terrorism and alleged murder. She pointed out that there was no evidence indicating the inadequacy of the correctional center’s facilities to address the health needs of the accused. Justice Olajuwon highlighted that the court’s examination revealed the competence and adequacy of the health center’s experts to manage the defendants’ conditions.
