Demola Olarewaju, Senior Political Assistant to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has described the party’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, as an experienced statesman who understands the dynamics of politics.

Olarewaju said Amaechi knows when to engage in a political fight and when to step back, particularly when the larger interest of the opposition coalition is at stake.

The aide made the remarks in a post on his official X account while praising Amaechi’s approach to the 2027 political contest.

According to Olarewaju, the former Rivers State governor understands when to put aside personal interests in pursuit of the broader objective of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He wrote:

“Rotimi Amaechi is a statesman who knows when to fight hard and when to sheathe swords; when to be selfish and when to subsume personal interest for a larger agenda of kicking Tinubu out.

“Some people are only useful to themselves, and therefore useless to society and a coalition.”

Wike Loyalist Threatens Amaechi

Meanwhile, former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Okechukwu Nwanosike, popularly known as Ishi Nwanosike, has issued a warning to Amaechi ahead of the 2027 elections.

Nwanosike, a loyalist of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made the comments in a video circulating online.

He argued that Amaechi would face a difficult battle if he attempted to secure victory for the ADC in Rivers State during the 2027 election.

Nwanosike claimed that the people of Ikwerre had not benefited sufficiently from Amaechi despite the former governor holding several prominent political positions over the years.

He recalled that Amaechi served in the Rivers State House of Assembly, governed the state for two terms and later served as a federal minister.

According to Nwanosike, Amaechi allegedly failed to use his political influence to adequately support the people of Ikwerre.

He said:

“Amaechi was in the House of Assembly two times, Ikwerre people supported him to be governor two times, and he was a minister for two tenures.

“Instead of helping the Ikwerre people, he decided to destroy even his friends. Yet he believes that it’s only him that is from the Ikwerre Local Government.”

Nwanosike also referred to the ongoing dispute over the leadership of the ADC, saying Amaechi and his political allies should await the Supreme Court’s decision on which faction would be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He added:

“We are here to tell the world and his political faction that until the Supreme Court decides which faction of the ADC is to be recognized by INEC, they should not bother coming home. E go red.”

On the anticipated political contest in Rivers State, Nwanosike issued a further warning, saying:
