Responding to the claims, Richard Olatunde, the Press Secretary to the Governor, clarified through the Party’s X handle that the reported amount of N7.3 billion was the cumulative palliative fund received from the federal government.

Olatunde explained that the contingency funds were allocated under unforeseen expenses, not initially part of the budget for the fiscal year but deemed necessary for the public’s interest.

He emphasized that the Palliative Committee would provide details of the expenditure of the funds in due course.

The statement stressed the transparency and accountability values synonymous with the Akeredolu-led administration.

It clarified that the additional N7 billion represented funds labeled as “Infrastructure Support Fund” from the federal government, specifically for palliatives to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

According to the Ondo State Public Finance Management Law 2017, the establishment of a Contingency Fund is outlined to address emergency expenditures crucial to the public interest, not initially provided for in the current year’s Appropriation Law.

The funds were released by the federal government to the state as part of nationwide efforts to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

Governor Akeredolu did not personally spend the N7.3 billion; instead, the funds were appropriately utilized for palliatives.
