Expressing his strong condemnation for the attack, Yahaya characterized the recent violence in his constituency as intolerable. According to him, the assault occurred around 3:30 pm on January 30, 2024, when more than 150 Fulani herdsmen, armed and militant, unexpectedly invaded the peaceful community of Agojeju-odo in a broad daylight incursion from the eastern part of the town.

The assailants, brandishing firearms, shot sporadically as they rampaged through the village. The consequences were devastating, with a sick woman undergoing treatment at a local private clinic (St. Peter Clinic) brutally killed. Additionally, two men, Mr. Attai John Idagboyi and Mr. Daniel Shuaibu, fell victim to the merciless attack. In a grim discovery, the remains of another man were found butchered in the bush, bringing the total death toll to four—comprising one woman and three men.

Yahaya highlighted that the assailants accessed the village through Bagana in Omala LGA, which shares borders with the Agatu area of Benue and Umasha community in Nasarawa States. Drawing attention to the prolonged attacks on Bagana, he mentioned that some residents had been unable to return home for several years due to the persistent assaults by these Fulani herdsmen militants.

In response to the alarming situation, Yahaya appealed for the governor’s assistance in directing the State Commissioner of Police and other security agency heads to deploy armed personnel to the affected area. He emphasized that the presence of military or armed personnel would act as a deterrent, temporarily averting further attacks while long-term measures are implemented to prevent reoccurrence or find lasting solutions.

Furthermore, the lawmaker urged the governor to instruct the State Emergency Agency to provide relief materials to the victims in Bagana and Agojeju-Odo, offering essential support to those affected by the tragic incident.
