Arrest Made: Eight-Month-Pregnant Woman At Helm of Oil Bunkering Gang

During a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police force’s public relations officer, explained that the arrest was part of the IGP’s special task force’s ongoing efforts to combat oil theft. Although the exact location was not specified, Adejobi indicated that the suspects were aiding a group involved in pipeline tampering and theft.

On July 4, 2024, the task force intercepted three wooden boats in the South-East region, which were found carrying 160 sacks of suspected illegally obtained petroleum products. Two suspects, Peace Moweeloh and Goodness Michael Chidinma, were initially arrested. Further investigation led to the detention of Alh Yerima Adamu and Igboke Banks Ude.

The pregnant woman and her husband, both implicated as key figures in the syndicate, confessed to their roles. All four suspects have been charged and remanded in prison.

In response to the increasing challenge of oil theft, Adejobi reported that the IGP is enhancing support for the Nigerian Navy through the NPF Marine Unit, with plans to add 20 new boats. He also emphasized the need for the prompt prosecution of suspects and the seizure of stolen goods and exhibits, as directed by the IGP.
