Author Launches New Book Exploring The EndSARS MovementAuthor Sharaf Adewale has unveiled his debut book, The Blood Stained Flag, which offers a poignant reflection on the events of October 20, 2020, a significant date in Nigeria’s history. During the book launch in Lagos, Adewale recounted how peaceful protests against police brutality descended into chaos when military forces, led by Lt. Col. S.O. Bello, violently intervened at the Lekki Tollgate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adewale expressed the emotional weight of that day, stating, “Every 20th of October, our old wound is reopened; our fallen heroes are remembered.” He shared that his writing was inspired not only by his poem, “The Blood Stained Flag,” created on that tragic night, but also by a deep-seated desire to advocate for justice.

He outlined several key objectives of the book, aiming to highlight the peaceful nature of the protests, the unjust military response, the greed of leaders who suppress movements for liberation, and the government’s attempts to cover up the atrocities committed against protesters. He also seeks to present the unbiased findings of the Justice Okwobi Panel and challenge the official denial of the Lekki massacre.

The book is structured in four sections:

1.The Peaceful Protest and the Military Meddling examines how Nigerian youths gathered to demand the disbandment of the notorious SARS unit and details the government’s initial efforts to undermine the protests through the deployment of hoodlums.

2.The Impartial Panel discusses the Lagos State Government’s establishment of a judicial panel to investigate police brutality, including the events of October 20, 2020, highlighting the panel’s findings that indicted the military and police for the violence inflicted on protesters.

3.Defending a State Crime addresses attempts by pro-government figures to discredit the panel’s report, including unsubstantiated accusations of discrepancies.

4.The Illegal White Paper critiques the Lagos State Government’s white paper responding to the panel’s findings, arguing that it is illegal and dismissive of documented evidence of violence.

Adewale concluded his address by underscoring the importance of truth and accountability in Nigeria’s pursuit of justice, expressing hope that his book will serve as a vital tool in the ongoing fight for transparency and reform within the nation’s governance.
