Bandits Open Fire On Retired General Heading Zamfara Security ForcesIn a daring attack on Sunday, bandits shot Retired General Lawal B. Muhammad, Director General of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), during an ambush on motorists in Kucheri village, Tsafe Local Government Area. A source from the Zamfara State Ministry of Internal Security confirmed that General Muhammad was injured and is receiving treatment at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau. “The DG of Community Protection Guards was shot by bandits and is currently being treated,” the source said.

This attack comes on the heels of rising violence in the area, where bandits killed at least eight CPG personnel and a commercial driver in Tsafe days earlier. In another incident, bandits clashed with soldiers in Unguwar Chida village, leading to the death of a commercial driver and injuries to three soldiers. These incidents have heightened fears over the escalating security situation in Zamfara State.

Speaking on the ongoing violence, General Muhammad said, “After noticing that bandits were routinely operating in Tsafe, I deployed 105 CPG personnel to safeguard the area. Unfortunately, the bandits ambushed my men, killing some of them on the spot. It’s a tragic situation.
