Bauchi Police Detain Suspect Over Alleged N120 Million Fraud

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 34-year-old Glory Samuel on suspicion of defrauding a businessman of N120 million. According to Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrest followed a complaint filed on April 1, 2024, regarding suspicious withdrawals amounting to N2,068,000 from the victim’s company bank account. Acting under the directive of Commissioner Auwal Mohammed, the State Intelligence Department conducted a thorough investigation, revealing that Samuel unlawfully withdrew the significant sum from the complainant’s bank account.

During interrogation, Samuel confessed to betraying the trust of a longtime market neighbor with whom he had shared space for over 15 years. Samuel explained that a friend from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in 2011, where he was studying Computer Science before dropping out, convinced him to access a wealthy individual’s phone for financial gain. Exploiting this access, Samuel allowed his accomplice to install financial applications like Opay and MoneyPoint, facilitating the transfer of funds to different bank accounts.

Following the investigation, authorities recovered assets including eight tricycles, N35 million in cash, two unfinished buildings, 60 bags of cooking charcoal, 30 bags of fertilizer, two motorcycles, and two industrial sewing machines from Samuel. The suspect had purportedly misled family members about his newfound wealth, attributing it to an online business venture.
