The affected family members include Amina Isah, a widow, her three children—Benjamin, Piko, and Esther—and her three grandchildren, including Hassan Emmanuel. The family began vomiting shortly after eating the corn meal.

According to a community source named Adaji, the elderly widow and three of the children were unconscious when they arrived at the hospital.

Dr. Oyaje Sule, the owner of Dr. Gana Clinic, confirmed that the seven patients were admitted to his facility. He reported that three of them, including the widow, were brought in unconscious but have since been revived.

Dr. Sule explained that the family had used leftover guinea corn mixed with chemicals intended for planting to prepare the pap. After planting the guinea corn, the remaining portion was washed, ground, and used to make the pap, which led to the severe reactions.

The doctor added, “The woman and two others were unconscious upon arrival, but they have been stabilized now. It appears the chemical contamination of the pap was the cause of their illness.”
