Abure made this known on Monday while paying tribute to the late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere. His remarks were shared in a statement issued in Abuja by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, following a visit to Adebanjo’s residence by a delegation of LP executives over the weekend.
Praising Adebanjo’s efforts, Abure emphasized that the late statesman deserved recognition for his significant contributions to the party’s electoral success.
He explained that Adebanjo’s interventions not only fostered peace within the Labour Party but also helped propel the party to remarkable achievements in the 2023 general elections.
Reflecting on Adebanjo’s impact, Abure noted, “Whenever a crisis arose, he would summon me to Lagos, where we would discuss and find amicable solutions. His efforts significantly contributed to our strong performance in the elections, particularly in Lagos, which has now become one of the party’s strongholds.”
Abure further expressed his admiration for Adebanjo’s unwavering commitment to democracy and the rule of law, highlighting the invaluable lessons learned from the late leader’s principles and resistance against injustice.
He also acknowledged Adebanjo’s role in mobilizing Nigerian youth, stating, “For the first time, the youth saw hope and became part of the change. Pa Adebanjo, despite his age, led the struggle and helped us achieve that transformation.”
Concluding his tribute, Abure expressed gratitude that Adebanjo witnessed the sustained democracy he fought for, noting that many of his peers did not have the same opportunity.
