Abdulkadir emphasized that the process of selecting the new ambassadors would involve extensive consultations with various stakeholders. Contrary to some reports suggesting financial constraints preventing their return, Abdulkadir clarified that all recalled ambassadors have already returned to the country.

The decision to recall all ambassadors, both career and non-career, was made by President Bola Tinubu on September 2, 2023. The directive mandated the ambassadors to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023. The recall, as explained by the president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, stemmed from a thorough evaluation of the current situations at Nigerian consulates, offices, and embassies worldwide.
