Community residents who spoke out on Thursday appealed to the Anambra State Police Command, led by CP Aderemi Adeoye, to assist in apprehending those responsible for enforcing the order.
A member of the community, Comrade Ifeanyi Mathew, who spoke to the media in Awka, stated: “Every Monday, we encounter enforcers who claim to be implementing the directive issued by the Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa.
“On June 13, a man named Mr. Obinna Nwosu from a neighboring community, Ndiokpalaeke in the same local government area, was assaulted by these enforcers, and he was subjected to a severe beating, while his tricycle was vandalized. He remained unwell due to the assault until he passed away on August 25, 2023.
“Although the police apprehended three individuals believed to be part of the enforcers, we implore the Anambra State Police Command to escalate their efforts because these individuals are well-known within the community.
“The three individuals detained are all residents of the community, and their names are Chidi Okoro, Ifeanyi Nweke, and Emeka Nwafor. One individual believed to be involved in the attack, Ugochukwu Okereke, is still at large.
“This group has been instilling fear in the Ajalli community. They coerce the area’s residents into staying home every Monday, and those who defy them have their properties and businesses damaged.
“This situation has rendered the area unsafe for individuals to conduct their legitimate business.”
Regarding the situation in the community, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, pledged to provide further information.
