CBN Signals Nigeria’s Economy Moving Towards Stability

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has highlighted that Nigeria is currently undergoing the stabilisation phase in its economic transformation journey, as stated in the country’s economic roadmap. Cardoso emphasized the alignment between the NESG’s roadmap and the recently introduced CBN strategy, indicating a shared vision for Nigeria’s economic future. The apex bank’s roadmap focuses on ensuring monetary, price, and financial system stability as a catalyst for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The CBN Governor outlined the three core themes of the bank’s strategy: price stability, a robust financial system, and good governance, which correspond well with the NESG’s delineation of distinct phases – stabilisation, consolidation, and acceleration. These phases, with their sequential steps and policy priorities, aim to foster a robust and sustainable economic transformation.

Cardoso underlined the importance of identifying potential inflection points for strategic decision-making, commending the nation for being at the stabilisation phase. He expressed optimism that achieving the goals of this phase would have a significant and immediate impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape. Internally, the CBN has already commenced work, both within the institution and across the banking industry, demonstrating its commitment to rebuilding trust, respect, and confidence in the economy.
