Kwankwaso accused the Kano Police of issuing a false security alert in an apparent attempt to disrupt the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order’s annual Maulud celebration. He stated that the false alarm not only threatened the success of the event but also endangered the lives of Kano residents.
The Kano Police had, on Friday, issued a terror alert just before the planned Maulud celebration at the Sani Abacha Stadium, claiming that terrorists were planning to target public gatherings in the state.
In a statement on Monday via his X platform, Kwankwaso condemned the police for making a politically motivated decision, alleging that they allowed themselves to be manipulated by the federal government to interfere in Kano’s affairs.
He criticized the alert as being baseless, which tarnished the reputation and integrity of the police force.
Kwankwaso congratulated the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order, their Spiritual Leader Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for successfully hosting the event. However, he warned the federal government against interfering in Kano’s local matters, saying:
“I congratulate the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order on successfully completing the annual Maulud of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass at the Sani Abacha Stadium. I also extend my congratulations to His Royal Highness, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, and His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, for organizing this monumental event.
“However, I am deeply concerned by the ‘terror alert’ issued by the Kano State Police Command on the eve of the event. This false alarm not only jeopardized the gathering’s success but also instilled unnecessary fear among the people of Kano and visitors from other parts of Nigeria and abroad.”
