Anthony Chiejina, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, issued a statement on Tuesday in response to a report titled “Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol” published by The PUNCH. The report suggested that independent petroleum marketers in Nigeria anticipated the Dangote refinery would price petrol at N600 or N650 per litre once it enters the market.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had indicated that the Dangote refinery might lower petrol prices, similar to its impact on diesel prices. IPMAN’s National Vice President, Hammed Fashola, had expressed hope that the $20 billion refinery would reduce fuel costs with adequate support, noting that while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) sells petrol to marketers at N570 per litre, many IPMAN members purchase from private depots at prices exceeding N700 per litre.
In response, Dangote Refinery has emphasized that it does not have any business dealings with IPMAN and has not discussed petrol pricing with the association. The refinery dismissed the projections as speculative and urged the public to disregard them.
The statement read: “We have noted the headline ‘Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol’ published on August 13, 2024. We would like to clarify that IPMAN is not our business partner, and we have not discussed petrol pricing with them. They have no authority to represent our pricing or decisions. We advise the public to avoid such speculative announcements and rely on our official channels for accurate information.
