Darkness Explained: EEDC Reveals Why South East Power Supply Has Collapsed
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has blamed the worsening power supply across the South-East on a drop in system frequency caused by gas shortages affecting electricity generation companies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the company, the situation has forced the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ration the limited power available on the national grid through load shedding.
This explanation was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by EEDC’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh.
EEDC said gas supply challenges to generation companies have sharply reduced the volume of electricity transmitted to distribution firms nationwide, including its network.
“As a result of the low system frequency, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has had no option but to embark on load shedding of the available energy,” the statement noted.
The development, the company explained, has led to a significant cut in the energy allocated to EEDC, directly impacting daily power supply to customers within its coverage area.
EEDC listed its affected franchise areas as MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra and EastLand.
The company assured customers that industry stakeholders were working collaboratively to resolve the challenges and restore stable electricity supply across the region.
It also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and appealed to consumers for patience and understanding as efforts continue to stabilise the system and improve power distribution.
