The Ugandan Ministry of Health confirmed the resurgence of the deadly virus on January 30, 2025, with one fatality and 44 identified contacts under monitoring.
In response, the NCDC has heightened surveillance at Nigeria’s entry points to prevent any potential importation of the virus.
“There are no cases of Ebola in Nigeria. However, @NCDCgov, in collaboration with partners, is closely monitoring the situation and has strengthened preparedness measures. Stay informed and protect yourself,” the agency stated via its official X handle on Monday.
NCDC Director-General, Jide Idris, emphasized that while Nigeria remains free of the virus, proactive steps are being taken to bolster preparedness.
“We have updated our EVD emergency contingency plan, intensified surveillance at entry points, and enhanced diagnostic capacity for Ebola testing at designated laboratories in cities with international airports and the National Reference Laboratory,” Idris explained.
Additionally, Lassa fever testing laboratories across Nigeria can be activated to scale up Ebola testing if necessary, ensuring rapid response should any cases arise.
