Kalu highlighted that while the South-East leadership has made efforts to secure Kanu’s release, some individuals within the movement have resorted to mere theatrics rather than implementing effective strategies. He stressed that achieving Kanu’s release requires strategic thinking and calculated steps, dismissing the notion that press coverage or violent tactics, such as the weekly sit-at-home protests, would compel the Federal Government to release Kanu.
The deputy speaker emphasized the futility of attempting to arm-twist the government through disruptive means, pointing out that such actions only harm the South-East itself. Kalu criticized the sit-at-home strategy, stating that its impact is limited to the South-East region, while people in other parts of the country continue with their daily activities.
In conclusion, Kalu likened the approach of threatening the government through sit-at-home measures to shooting oneself in the foot, describing it as the “greatest level of folly.” He advocated for a more strategic and dialogue-oriented approach to address the issue and secure Kanu’s release.
