Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to Spend Festive Season in Custody....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, will remain in custody over the holidays following a ruling by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

On Tuesday, the court ordered Bello’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the resolution of his bail application in a ₦110 billion money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Maryann Anenih, who presided over the case, adjourned the matter for formal hearings on January 29, 30, and February 25, 27, 2025. The decision has sparked widespread discussions on social media.

Dino Melaye Mocks Bello

Former senator and fierce critic of Bello, Dino Melaye, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to react to the development.

“Six years ago, SDM predicted Yahaya Bello would end up in prison,” Melaye wrote. “Today, he will be spending Christmas in Kuje prison. All powers belong to God.”

The post drew a mix of support and skepticism, with many Nigerians sharing varied opinions about Bello’s incarceration.

Social Media Erupts with Reactions

Many Nigerians voiced doubts over whether Bello would truly face the reality of imprisonment or enjoy special treatment.

  • @FACT_UNDISPUTED: “This is all just a charade. After the drama, Bello will be released to enjoy his loot. Nigerian politicians rarely face real consequences.”
  • @WarriWeirdo: “He’s in Kuje prison, yet no recovered funds? Sounds suspicious!”
  • @SirKingsco: “If Bobrisky can stay in an apartment and call it prison, why not this man? He’s probably home, not in jail.”

Calls for Genuine Justice

Some Nigerians called for accountability and a reform of the justice system to hold politically exposed individuals accountable.

  • @MO_Shaibu_: “You want us to believe he’s in prison? Our justice system needs transparency.”
  • @atkfarouk: “If this leads to visible accountability, it could be a turning point. Nigerian leaders need to learn from this.”

Persistent Public Doubts

Despite the ruling, skepticism lingers about whether high-profile individuals like Bello ever face the full weight of the law.

  • @doctorchibuzo: “This feels like a PR move to appease critics after comparisons to Dele Farotimi’s arrest photos. Nothing meaningful will come of it.”
  • @OnwukaQueeneth: “Anyone who believes Nigerian politicians actually serve jail terms is naive.”

The ongoing debate highlights public frustration with the justice system and the belief that politically exposed persons often escape accountability. Whether this case marks a turning point or continues a trend of impunity remains uncertain.
