Drama In Rivers: Lawmakers Spurn Fubara’s ₦100,000 Cash Gift

The development comes amid renewed political tensions between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

According to Daily Post, the funds were transferred directly into the personal bank accounts of the lawmakers on the governor’s directive.

However, the legislators were said to have raised concerns over what they described as a lack of due process under Fubara’s administration. They accused the executive arm of making financial withdrawals without legislative approval, alleging violations of constitutional provisions, Supreme Court rulings, and the principle of separation of powers.

Meanwhile, the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the South-South, Victor Giadom, has insisted that Wike remains the dominant political force in Rivers State.

Giadom stated that no politician, including Governor Fubara, can secure any electoral victory in Gokana Local Government Area without Wike’s backing.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during Wike’s thank-you visit to the people of Gokana.

Reaffirming the community’s allegiance, Giadom said Gokana remains firmly loyal to Wike and President Bola Tinubu, describing the area as politically inaccessible to any rival.

“I can confidently assure you that the people of Gokana stand solidly with Wike and Tinubu. No one can challenge Wike’s influence here,” he said.

“Gokana is a no-go area for anyone, including Governor Fubara. To win anything in Gokana, you must pass through Wike.”
