The aggrieved protesters, drawn from all 57 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), marched to the Assembly complex carrying placards with bold messages like “Ojelabi Must Go” and “We Want Fresh Leadership.”

The demonstration, which began early in the day, drew a significant deployment of security personnel. Police officers were stationed around the Assembly premises to maintain law and order amid rising tensions within the party ranks.

The protesters accused the party leadership of attempting to impose candidates in the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 LCDAs across the state — a move they say is undemocratic and unacceptable.

In a bid to de-escalate the situation, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Hamzat made an appearance at the protest ground. He assured the demonstrators that the matter would be addressed internally and resolved in due course, emphasizing that it was a party affair.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Youth and Sports under the Buhari administration, Solomon Dalung, has weighed in on the APC’s internal turmoil. Speaking to The Guardian, Dalung predicted deeper crises ahead for the ruling party, warning that its internal issues could soon surpass those of any other political party in Nigeria.

He praised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for resolving its internal conflicts regarding candidate selection before consolidation, expressing confidence in the party’s future success.

According to Dalung, “The APC is currently pregnant with more crises than any other party in Nigeria. What is coming may shake the foundation of the party if not urgently addressed.”
