Despite being granted bail with a substantial sum of three hundred million, an amount equivalent to a high-end Lamborghini Urus in today’s Nigerian economy, Emefiele faces six significant charges related to the unlawful procurement of vehicles at inflated prices.
The Six Count Charges Include:
- Corruption in Vehicle Supply Contract (2018): Emefiele is accused of corruptly conferring an advantage upon Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro, a CBN staff member. This charge pertains to the awarding of a contract for the supply of 37 Hilux vehicles at a cost of ₦854.7 million in 2018.
- Corruption in Toyota Avallon Contract (Year Not Specified): Another charge alleges the conferment of an advantage on a company where a CBN staff member is a director. The accusation involves the awarding of a contract for the supply of one Toyota Avallon at the cost of ₦99.0 million.
- Corrupt Advantage Contrary to ICPC Act (2019): Emefiele faces charges related to conferring a corrupt advantage in violation of Section 16 of the ICPC Act. This charge is associated with the awarding of a contract for the supply of a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 in 2019 at the cost of ₦73.0 million.
- Illegal Award for Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (Year Not Specified): An additional charge involves the illegal award of a contract for the supply of Toyota Land Cruiser V8 at the cost of ₦73.8 million.
- Award of Contract for 2 Toyota Hilux (2020): Emefiele is accused of awarding a contract for the supply of two Toyota Hilux vehicles in 2020 at the cost of ₦44.2 million.
