The FCT Police announced that they have strategically deployed sufficient personnel and equipment across the city in preparation for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day festivities. Adeh confirmed that both officers and resources are in place to ensure a smooth celebration for the residents of the FCT.

The statement highlighted that the deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot gear, and increased visibility policing, among other measures. It also mentioned that traffic diversions would be implemented in high-traffic areas expected to attract large crowds, such as the Central Area and Eagle Square.

Residents were urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the FCT Police emergency lines.

This assurance comes as some Nigerians plan to hold a #FearlessInOctober1 protest against the economic hardships caused by current government policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the naira. As reported by Naija News, organizers of the #FearlessOctober1 protest have asserted that they will not be deterred by the police, Department of State Services, or military in their efforts to demonstrate on Nigeria’s Independence Day.

In preparation for the protest, the organizers have formally contacted Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, requesting security measures to ensure the safety of the demonstrators. They stressed that the right to protest is fundamental and vowed to resist any attempts by state agents to suppress their voices.
