In the video, Ahmed Isa, the founder of Brekete Family Radio, alleged that police officers demanded ₦2,000 from a taxi driver and left their walkie-talkie behind after the driver paid ₦1,000 following considerable persuasion. Isa claimed the police stopped the driver due to an issue with one of his car’s tires.

Responding to these allegations on Tuesday, the FCT Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, dismissed the claims made in the viral video. She stated that no walkie-talkie belonging to the command is currently missing and suggested that the device mentioned by Isa might refer to one of three walkie-talkies reported lost in 2023.

On her X account, SP Adeh wrote, “The FCT Command has received numerous inquiries regarding a viral video claiming officers attempted to extort a motorist and left a walkie-talkie in his vehicle. While we take such allegations seriously, we encourage the public to verify facts before making accusations. The program host should have reached out to the police for clarification rather than spreading unverified information.

“Importantly, the walkie-talkie mentioned may pertain to three devices reported missing last year in Gwagwalada. Our Communications Department confirms that all walkie-talkies currently in use within the FCT are accounted for, with no recent reports of missing devices.”
