Speaking during a livestream church service, the cleric acknowledged that errors had been made and expressed regret to anyone who felt offended by the situation. While maintaining that several allegations against him were false, Okafor said he was committed to reconciliation and restoring peace.
He specifically asked for Ogala’s forgiveness, stating that he was prepared to make amends wherever necessary. In a dramatic moment during the service, the pastor went on his knees before the congregation, describing the apology as both a personal and public act.
“Let me be clear—we are not here to trade accusations. Mistakes were made, and I sincerely apologise to everyone affected,” he said. “Although many of the claims circulating are untrue, I am sorry to Doris Ogala and to anyone I may have hurt. I am human and not perfect, and I ask for forgiveness. I am willing to make restitution where required.”
The apology followed a series of events that led to Ogala’s arrest and subsequent release. She was initially detained in Abuja, granted bail, and later re-arrested by officers from Zone 2 before being transferred to Lagos. Reports also indicated that her lawyer was assaulted while attempting to document police actions, with his phones allegedly seized.
After interventions by activists, Ogala was released in Lagos. It was later revealed that Pastor Okafor met her at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, where he appealed for an amicable resolution. During a closed-door meeting, he reportedly knelt while requesting a settlement, after which Ogala was released again on health grounds.
The dispute began after Ogala accused the pastor of failing to honour an alleged promise of marriage. Through her legal representatives, she demanded ₦1 billion in damages for emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial losses. She claimed the relationship began in 2017 and involved family introductions and financial transactions amounting to about ₦45 million.
