Represented by the State Head of Service, George Nweke, Governor Fubara extended his apologies to the workers for the delay in disbursing the Christmas largesse. He explained that the delay was attributed to challenges faced by the bank responsible for the disbursement, including unfavorable telecommunication networks.
Fubara emphasized that the intention behind the governor’s gesture was noble and unprecedented, highlighting that no other state had provided such support to its workers. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delay, noting that the money had been paid by the state government, but certain banks were encountering technical glitches.
Despite the challenges, the governor’s representative assured the workers that the issue was being addressed, with the bank committed to resolving the problem promptly. He guaranteed the workers that they would receive the funds by Friday.
Governor Fubara urged the workers to remain exemplary ambassadors of the state, emphasizing the importance of commitment, diligence, and dedication. He promised that other issues, including unpaid arrears, would also be adequately addressed.
Addressing the concerns raised by the workers, Mrs. Nengi Effa, the spokeswoman for the group, highlighted that a significant portion of the affected workers were teachers. She explained that their decision to approach the governor stemmed from unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issues with their organizations and banks.
