In an interview with media personality VJ Adams, Sabinus explained that his father had hoped he would become a lawyer. However, after failing to secure admission to study law, he opted for Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt.

He said he discovered his passion for comedy while on campus and began creating skits, even though the venture wasn’t profitable at the time.

According to him, his father only learned about his comedy career after he graduated. Once he began appearing on event posters, his sisters confirmed it, leaving his father disappointed and regretful about investing in his education, calling skit making a “stupid business.”

Sabinus added that his father later accepted his career path and gave him his support—especially after he began gifting him money earned from comedy.

He said, “At first, my dad never wanted me to be what I am today. He wanted me to be a lawyer. I tried my best but couldn’t get into law school, so I settled for Linguistics and Communication Studies at Uniport.

“It was on campus that I discovered skit making and decided to give it a try. Money wasn’t coming.

“After I graduated, my dad didn’t know I was a comedian because I kept it secret. A year later, he started seeing my face on comedy show posters. My sisters confirmed it. He was furious. He exclaimed, ‘Which comedy? Stupid business. Look at the boy I sent to become a lawyer.’”
