Represented by his Special Adviser, Ismaila Adiatu, Alausa pledged to enhance infrastructure and expand facilities, emphasizing that efforts would be made to improve the working conditions and salaries of healthcare professionals. He urged the doctors to stay and contribute to the nation’s health system, emphasizing the need to prevent the field from being dominated by unqualified practitioners.
Alausa stated, “Don’t leave, stay behind and help your country. We will provide an enabling environment for you to practice and be satisfied. We will improve the infrastructure, the conditions, and the salary. Please don’t go, even if for your parents and your relatives, stay behind so that the field is not left for quacks.”
Out of the 416 medical and dental graduates who successfully passed the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) examinations, a notable 70 percent of the inductees are women. This plea from the minister comes amid a trend of Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad, emphasizing the importance of retaining skilled professionals to strengthen the nation’s healthcare workforce.
