The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest of several officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in connection with the ₦90 billion hajj subsidy issue. Bakare clarified that ICPC did not shut down NAHCON’s office, as some reports suggested. He emphasized that the commission operates within legal limits and that the arrested officials, whose names were not disclosed, are currently assisting with the investigation.

“We are investigating NAHCON officials who either did not attend or refused to honor our invitation. We visited them to address this issue,” Bakare stated. “We did not shut down the office as claimed; ICPC operates legally. The arrested officials have been released on bail and will continue to assist with the investigation.”

NAHCON spokesperson Fatimah Usara commented on the arrests, describing them as part of a normal procedure following hajj operations. She explained, “Some NAHCON staff have been providing information to ICPC as required. This is a standard practice after every hajj to clear up any doubts. The Head of Procurement missed an invitation, so ICPC officers visited him at his workplace. They waited for him outside, and no offices were entered.
