The case centres on disagreements over the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Turaki-led faction is challenging the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the convention conducted on November 15 and 16, 2025.

The appellate court’s judgment further intensified divisions within the opposition party, with rival factions continuing to claim legitimacy over its leadership structure.

The Supreme Court has fixed April 22, 2026, for hearing the matter.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Lawal Garba, approved the request by the Turaki faction for an accelerated hearing.

The court also shortened the timeline for filing legal documents, indicating its intention to expedite resolution of the dispute.

During the proceedings, the court ordered that hearing notices be served on Mohammed Abdulrahman, one of the respondents who was not represented in court, to ensure fair hearing for all parties.

Counsel to the Turaki faction, Chris Uche, urged the court to give the case urgent attention, citing the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He argued that a quick resolution was necessary for proper party planning ahead of the polls and submitted documents to support the request for expedited hearing.

At the end of proceedings, the Supreme Court scheduled April 22, 2026, for hearing the two appeals filed by the Turaki-led faction.

The outcome of the case is expected to significantly shape the leadership direction of the PDP ahead of future elections.
