**FG Halts Plan to Sell ₦40,000 Bags of Rice**
In other news, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has suspended its initiative to sell subsidized 50kg bags of rice to civil servants at ₦40,000 each. The federal government had recently announced the creation of distribution centers nationwide for this purpose.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, had described the initiative as part of efforts to alleviate living conditions for citizens. Public servants were instructed to complete a Google form on the OHCSF website for endorsement by the director of human resources.
However, a recent communiqué titled “Withdrawal of Internal Circular on Sale of Subsidized Rice to Public Servants” has rescinded this plan. The circular, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, informed Directors and Heads of Departments of the withdrawal.
The circular read, “I am directed to refer to our internal circular of 1st August 2024 regarding the sale of subsidized rice and to inform you that it is hereby withdrawn. Further details will become provided in due course. Please inform staff in your departments and units accordingly.
