Kano Demands Eviction Of Businesses From Public Parks And Gardens....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an effort to reclaim designated public spaces, the Kano State Government has issued a quit notice to businesses currently occupying parks and gardens intended for relaxation purposes. The directive, announced by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nasiru Sule-Garo, coincided with the 2024 World Environment Day.

Sule-Garo emphasized that numerous parks and gardens in Kano had been repurposed into commercial ventures, diverting from their original intent. He underscored the government’s commitment to restoring these areas as public parks, essential for leisure and as vital green spaces.

Specific locations affected include the public garden opposite Abdullahi Waste Hospital and another along Audu Bako Way, both now used for business activities contrary to their initial purpose.

Furthermore, as part of its climate change mitigation strategy, the government plans to plant three million seedlings in collaboration with ACReSaL and other stakeholders. The ministry’s focus has expanded to include comprehensive environmental management and disease control efforts, encompassing mosquito and pest control across all 44 local government areas, alongside measures to tackle drainage and erosion issues.

The renaming of the ministry to Environment and Climate Change underscores its heightened role in addressing global climate challenges within the state. Additionally, ongoing initiatives such as the Kano Afforestation Project and the development of a climate change policy are aimed at fostering a sustainable and environmentally friendly Kano.

Residents are encouraged to support these efforts by refraining from indiscriminate waste disposal, with stringent house-to-house inspections set to enforce environmental cleanliness standards.
