In audio recordings obtained by Daily Trust, the leader of the bandits, whose identity remains unknown, expressed frustration, stating, “We are selling our cattle to feed the girls, and we are tired… We are tired of feeding them. You should take this message to those concerned. We are giving them seven days to release our people.”

The informant pleaded for the safety of the innocent girls, but the bandit leader insisted, “Then you should talk to the federal government to release our members. They have incarcerated our members for a long time.”

In another disturbing audio clip, the bandits threatened violence, declaring, “We would slaughter at least three of the girls in the first instance and share the pictures for the world to see” if security forces attempt a rescue. The bandit leader criticized the government’s inconsistent approach and demanded the release of their imprisoned comrades.

The informant attempted to negotiate, promising to work towards an amicable resolution, but the bandit leader expressed skepticism, citing the government’s unreliable promises.

It has been revealed that the bandits are specifically demanding the release of one of their commanders, Ibrahim, who is reportedly the elder brother of the deceased bandit leader, Ali Kachalla. Over 50 of their members are claimed to be in custody.

In response to the escalating crisis, some parents are urging the government to reconsider its kinetic approach and opt for dialogue with the abductors. Dr. Ibrahim Mai Unguwa, the father of one of the abducted girls, emphasized the precedence of negotiations in other conflict zones and urged the government to consider a swap, echoing concerns about the potential danger to the students during a rescue operation.

Alhaji Muhammad Malami, another parent, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for the government to prioritize the safe return of the students and avoid actions that could endanger their lives. As the ordeal continues for the abducted students enduring harsh conditions, parents are fervently praying for their safe return, hoping the government will heed their appeals and explore alternative strategies for resolution.
