In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, several sex workers shared that the current economic climate has significantly impacted their clientele, leading to a notable decrease in the number of customers seeking their services.
Nneka Neli, who operates in the Egbeda-Igando area, explained that she refrains from raising her rates because the number of men patronizing her has drastically reduced. “I keep my prices affordable for my customers. Some have even stopped coming altogether due to the economic situation. I charge between N20,000 and N25,000 for a full night, and N15,000 for a short session of one to two hours,” she stated.
She added that business is slow, particularly on Sundays, which used to be busy. “Everywhere is now dry. I pay N8,000 daily for my lodge, and yesterday (Wednesday), I hadn’t even managed to pay yet. I need to hustle to cover that cost. The economy is really affecting me.”
Another sex worker, Peace, who works along LASU Road, echoed her sentiments, describing the economic situation as dire. “This economy hasn’t been kind to me. It’s just suffering and smiling. I have to stick to my prices to get any business. For two hours, I charge N25,000; a quickie is N15,000, and a full night is N30,000,” she said, noting that prices were negotiable.
Pimp Dolapo Abiodun explained that his workers have kept their old rates to remain competitive. “If I call any of these girls to work for you now for N5,000, she won’t refuse. They don’t believe they’ll get customers; some of them have stopped working at night and are even returning to their villages due to the economic situation. Our clients don’t come with cars anymore because of the high fuel costs,” he said.
He lamented that girls who used to charge N10,000 are now accepting as little as N1,000 or N1,500 due to lack of patronage. “The economy has affected everything. These girls simply don’t have customers anymore.
