LATSET: Works Minister Calls For N18.6 Trillion To Address Road Sector Challenges

He highlighted this during his appearance before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, defending the ministry’s request for N300 billion from the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget.
Expressing the urgency of creating a contingency fund to manage unforeseen road emergencies, Umahi urged the National Assembly to carefully consider addressing the country’s road sector challenges.
He emphasized, “Over the next four years, an estimated N18.6 trillion is essential for addressing our road sector. The National Assembly must take a strategic approach to seriously tackle these issues.”
He further underlined the need for immediate action, likening the condition of some roads to a critical patient requiring urgent attention.
Urging the provision for contingency funds, he explained, “In instances where a road has collapsed and citizens are affected, it requires immediate emergency intervention.
We urge the provision of contingency funds to address such emergency situations in line with directives from the National Assembly.
