The suspect, identified as Steady Munda, allegedly committed the heinous act in a secluded area, subsequently disposing of the child’s body in a nearby river. Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway.

According to eyewitnesses, Steady, accompanied by Caston Mucheuki, boarded a commuter omnibus bound for Chemowa Primary School. Their journey was interrupted when the vehicle got stuck near a riverbank. As passengers disembarked to assist the driver, Steady vanished, prompting Caston to search for him.

During their search, Caston and fellow passengers encountered distressed children who reported seeing a strange man fleeing with a toddler. Following the children’s lead, the search party discovered Steady on the opposite side of the river, just after he had disposed of the child’s body. Steady is currently in police custody at ZRP Gokwe.

Upon his apprehension, Steady implicated a local businessman named Tambu in the crime, alleging his involvement in the murder.
