She made this known during a Billboard interview released on Thursday, January 29, 2026, while speaking about her 2026 Grammy nominations with Love Island USA star Chelley Bissainthe.

Ayra explained that although she has partnered with several artistes in the past, Burna Boy remains her top choice for a future collaboration.

“Everybody knows Burna Boy is like my number one person I want to collaborate with,” she said. “I’ve collaborated with a lot of people, and I still want to collaborate with many more.”

Ayra Starr, whose real name is Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, recently secured a Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category.

The nomination was earned through her song Gimme Dat, a collaboration with Wizkid released on April 25, 2025.

The official list of nominees was unveiled in November 2025 ahead of the awards ceremony set for February 1, 2026.

Speaking about the recognition, Ayra described the nomination as reassuring for her career. She said it boosted her confidence and served as a reminder that she is moving in the right direction.

While she admitted her first Grammy nomination felt surprising, she noted that receiving a second one brought her peace and strengthened her belief in her talent as an artiste.

Ayra also shared details about the creation of Gimme Dat, revealing that she only discovered during recording that the track contained a sample from 911 by Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige.

She said she was unaware of the sample’s origin until Don Jazzy mentioned it, prompting her to research the song’s background.

The experience became even more special when she later found out that the studio where the song was recorded once belonged to Wyclef Jean, a coincidence she described as meaningful.

The singer also opened up about the difficulties she faced while recording, explaining that her voice was not in good condition on the first day and remained strained on the second.

Despite the challenges, she stayed committed to delivering her best performance, with the help of persistence and studio support.

Ayra Starr further revealed that Gimme Dat was initially intended to be a solo track.

She recorded it months before its release, long before Wizkid joined the project, adding that once he became involved, everything came together smoothly and the timing felt perfect.
