Secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, has held discussions with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the ministerial list, hinting at the imminent submission of nominees to the National Assembly.

However, concerns have been raised by political observers who fear that the formation of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) might be delayed until September, even if the Senate resumes from recess. In light of this, some Senators are contemplating the option of suspending their yearly recess to expedite the screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees.

While opinions within the Senate are divided on whether to proceed with the recess, some senators are pushing for its suspension to begin the screening process immediately. Others are considering alternative approaches to assist the new administration in forming its cabinet promptly.

Under the Senate’s procedure, the screening of ministerial nominees is typically conducted in the Committee of the Whole, requiring all members’ presence for the process.

As the day progresses, the Senate remains at a crossroads, unsure of how to proceed should President Tinubu fail to submit the ministerial list before the constitutional deadline, potentially facing impeachment by the 10th National Assembly for the breach.
