Nigerian Army Foils International Ammunition Smuggling Syndicate, Arrests Suspects

Troops from the 192 Battalion Nigerian Army, operating in the 81 Division Area of Responsibility, successfully apprehended the suspects while they were transporting a truckload of smuggled ammunition to Anambra.

Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The army was able to carry out this operation based on actionable intelligence received by the troops.
The truck seized during the operation was found to be loaded with a significant amount of ammunition. It contained 720 packets of Red Star Cartridges of 12 Calibre, with 25 cartridges per packet, totaling 18,000 cartridges.
Additionally, there were 250 packets of live (black) cartridges, each containing 10 packets, totaling 2,500 cartridges of the same calibre.
The suspects, identified as Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian national, and the driver, Mr. Lukman Sani, have been apprehended and are currently in custody.
They are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the weapons were smuggled into the country from Mali through the Idiroko International Border.
The Nigerian Army’s successful operation has effectively disrupted the activities of this ammunition smuggling syndicate, ensuring that these illegal weapons did not reach their intended destination.
