Josef Onoh, the former South-East spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has strongly refuted allegations of land allocation irregularities and favouritism leveled against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He dismissed the claims as politically motivated attempts to derail the Minister’s developmental initiatives in the capital.

In a public statement, Onoh emphasized that under the Nigerian Constitution, every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty and deserves a fair hearing. He pointed to the Land Use Act of 1978, which grants the FCT Minister delegated authority from the President to manage land in Abuja.

“Wike’s actions align with the Abuja Master Plan and broader urban development objectives,” Onoh stated, adding that his own experience in land administration confirms that the allocations in question are geared towards infrastructure expansion and affordable housing—not personal gain.

On the issue of land allegedly awarded to Wike’s relatives, Onoh stated that the Minister had firmly denied such reports, including allegations involving his sons. “There is no verified evidence indicating that any of his family members received land,” he said, noting that every Nigerian citizen, including children of public officials, has the legal right to apply for land.

He also underscored that the conduct of public officials is guided by the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, which forbids conflicts of interest. “To date, there is no credible evidence suggesting Minister Wike personally benefited from any land allocation,” he noted.

Responding to reports linking certain companies allegedly associated with Wike’s family to land grants, Onoh said such allegations remain unsubstantiated and have been denied by the Minister.

He further criticized efforts to drag President Tinubu into the controversy, calling them deceptive. “The President has reportedly shown his dedication to transparency by ordering an investigation. Agencies like the EFCC and ICPC function independently and will act if valid evidence emerges,” Onoh concluded.
