Gbajabiamila made these remarks on Sunday at the conclusion of a brief ceremony held in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary.
He acknowledged that while the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s interventions may not be immediate, they will be realized in the short term.
He cited initiatives such as the N25,000 interim pay increase for workers and the introduction of buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) as measures to address the immediate welfare and transportation needs of Nigerians.
Gbajabiamila stated, “He (President Bola Tinubu) is a man who feels with his heart and sees the pain. And so, all these measures that he’s putting in place, measures that we may not be able to reap the benefits immediately.”
Regarding the president’s independence speech, Gbajabiamila noted that Nigeria is not the only country grappling with economic challenges.
He likened the country’s economic situation to the necessary pains a pregnant woman endures during childbirth, emphasizing that Nigerians will eventually find relief.
He added, “Right now, we’re going through pains, necessary pains, I must say, almost like childbirth. Women go through necessary pains when they carry a nine-month pregnancy.
But at the end of the day, the joy that awaits you after nine months is unquantifiable. And that’s exactly the way I want us to see it as Nigerians.”
Gbajabiamila encouraged Nigerians to recognize the government’s efforts and resilience in addressing challenges. He highlighted the unity displayed during the independence ceremony, where people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Igbos, Hausas, and Yorubas, came together, and he encouraged Nigerians to continue embracing such unity.
