It’s worth noting that Governor Uzodinma, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, had made a commitment at a campaign event to provide employment for 4,000 Imo youths in Europe by December this year.
He also pledged to support Imo indigenes interested in relocating to Europe or Canada by equipping them with employable skills to facilitate their integration into their new lives.
In response, Opara expressed his view that such a promise belittles the severe unemployment crisis faced by the youth of the state.
He asserted that this commitment underscores the failure of Governor Uzodinma’s administration to address the needs of the youth and the broader population of Imo State.
Opara pledged to enhance the state’s industrial capacity and transform it into an attractive hub and business destination if elected as the governor of Imo State.
As part of his plan, he proposed the establishment of well-equipped Skill Acquisition Centers in all 27 LGAs of Imo State, where young people would receive training in various skills such as tailoring, fashion design, leatherwork (including shoe and bag making), carpentry, welding, electrical work, mechanical work, and more.
He affirmed, “If entrusted with the mandate to serve as the Governor of the State, my vision and commitment are to develop the state’s industrial capacity and make it an investment-friendly hub and business destination.
This will attract both domestic and foreign investors who will collaborate with my administration and the private sector to develop various sectors of the state’s economy, thereby generating much-needed employment opportunities for Imo State’s youth.”
