In a letter of protest addressed to the NMA President and dated August 2, 2024, the Committee of Past Chairmen—including Dr. Aimila David, Dr. Zubair Kabiru, Dr. Gabriel Musa, Dr. Joseph Arome Iduh, Dr. Ahmed Attah Jacob, Dr. Austin Ojotule, Dr. Tijani Godwin Atayi, Dr. Omakoji Oyiguh, and Dr. Abubakar Alhassan—expressed a lack of confidence in Fact-Finding Committee members Dr. Ushakuma Anenger and Celestine Ugwoke. The committee criticized them for failing to address the ongoing crisis attributed to Dr. Baoku.
The letter, titled “Re: Resolutions on the Crisis in NMA Kogi Branch,” stated that while the Interim Caretaker Committee (CTC) had withdrawn petitions from the suspended Chairman, the National Officers Committee (NOC) had not adequately addressed the grievances or acted on violations committed by Dr. Baoku. The letter pointed out that these issues, some involving criminal investigations, require more than a directive to withdraw cases.
The letter affirmed that Dr. Baoku’s suspension and the authority of the State Officers Committee (SOC) remain valid as decided by Congress. It expressed concern about the perceived partisanship of Dr. Anenger and Ugwoke and criticized their inability to impartially resolve the issues.
Additionally, the letter condemned the NOC’s decision to initiate disciplinary action against Dr. Zubair Kabiru, a former NMA Kogi Chairman. The past chairmen accused the NOC of making an ill-advised decision that appears to protect Dr. Baoku rather than address the constitutional breaches leading to Baoku’s suspension.
The group also voiced frustration over the NOC’s perceived interference in Kogi’s autonomy and criticized the Fact-Finding Committee for its lack of objectivity and failure to address constitutional violations by Dr. Baoku. The letter concluded by stating that the NMA Kogi branch doubts the fairness of the NOC’s interventions and the Fact-Finding Committee’s ability to resolve the issues impartially.
