NNPP Kicks Back: Declares Abdulmumin Jibrin’s Expulsion ‘Null And Void

In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the party’s National Secretary, Oginni Sunday, declared that the announcement carried no legitimacy. He explained that it was made by Hashim Dungurawa, a former Kano State chairman who had himself been expelled from the NNPP.
Describing the move as “a joke taken too far,” Sunday stressed that “a non-member cannot attempt to expel a sitting federal lawmaker.”
The party further cited a Federal Capital Territory High Court ruling of April 2, 2025, alongside a judgment of an Abia State High Court, both of which upheld the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his associates, including Dungurawa.
Rift With Kwankwasiyya
According to Sunday, Jibrin’s refusal to align with Kwankwaso’s camp provoked the Kwankwasiyya movement, which he accused of attempting to undermine the lawmaker in retaliation.
He also warned that Governor Abba Yusuf’s continued loyalty to Kwankwaso could endanger the NNPP’s chances in Kano State ahead of 2027. “One of the smartest ways for Yusuf to retain Kano in 2027 is to travel to Lagos and apologise to the party’s founder and leadership,” Sunday advised.
Responding, Jibrin—who once served as Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group—described the purported expulsion as “a rude shock.”
He insisted that the interview he granted in English and Hausa, which was cited against him, did not justify such a heavy sanction. “No invitation was extended to me to defend myself before any organ of the party. Even under a military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court-martial,” he said.
On claims that he defaulted in his financial obligations, Jibrin denied wrongdoing, saying: “Let them issue me an invoice and I will settle it promptly.”
The lawmaker also criticised the party for failing to recognise the contributions of its members. “The party does not believe anybody has political value or deserves respect at various levels,” he added.
