Umahi made the statement on Wednesday during the official flag-off ceremony of the 465-kilometre Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Super Highway, held at Amuro Primary School in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
He highlighted that President Tinubu is the first Nigerian leader to appoint an Igbo man as Minister of Works, a gesture he described as a clear indication of Tinubu’s inclusive and unifying leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the President at the event, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, said the road project represents the administration’s strategic use of infrastructure to drive national growth and development.
“This project mirrors Mr. President’s dedication to using infrastructure as a catalyst for national development. Our continued support for his administration is our way of showing appreciation,” Nwifuru said.
He also stressed the importance of the super highway to Ebonyi State, describing it as transformative for a landlocked region with rich potential in agriculture, mining, and commerce.
“For us in Ebonyi, this is more than just a road project—it’s a breakthrough. Years of limited connectivity have held us back. Today, we’re tearing down that wall. This road is a game-changer,” he added.
According to him, the super highway will ease market access for farmers, reduce transportation costs for traders, ensure safer travel for students, generate employment for youths, and stimulate the local economy.
“This is not just an engineering venture—it’s a declaration that the days of marginalisation are over. A new era of inclusion and national integration is here.”
In his closing remarks, Umahi hailed Tinubu as a unifier and visionary leader, affirming that the President has the interest of the Igbo people at heart and has shown so through both words and actions.
