The case, which has drawn significant public interest, revolves around allegations of fraud, high-handedness, abuse of office, and gross misconduct that led to Obasa’s removal. Justice Pinheiro deferred the ruling after reviewing at least 15 preliminary applications submitted by the respondents.
These applications were filed by the defense team, which includes members of the state assembly and former Speaker Mojisola Meranda.
Following the hearing, the judge stated that the date for the judgment’s delivery would be communicated to the involved parties later.
During the proceedings, Obasa’s legal counsel, Prof. Joshua Olatoke (SAN), urged the court to assume jurisdiction over the case. He argued that the Lagos Assembly’s actions on January 13—when lawmakers convened during recess—were procedurally flawed, as neither Obasa nor the majority leader received proper notification.
Olatoke stressed that only the majority leader had the authority to reconvene a legislative session during recess.
