In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, Okupe lamented the loss, describing Ubah as a significant figure in Nigerian politics. “With his passing, Nigeria has lost a colossus,” Okupe stated. “The curtains have fallen on the golden boy of the South East.”

Okupe referred to Ubah as a formidable presence in Anambra politics and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was an exceptional politician and a trailblazer,” he said. “The South East has lost an illustrious son, and Nigeria has lost a monumental leader. He was my friend, my brother, and a political ally. May his soul rest in peace.”

According to NAN, Ubah, who was the CEO of Capital Oil, represented Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate. He served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream). Ubah won the Anambra South senatorial seat in the 9th National Assembly under the Young People’s Party (YPP), a relatively small party, and secured re-election in 2023. Recently, he had officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
