In response, the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, has issued a directive for all private individuals unlawfully holding government assets to return them immediately. Failure to comply, he warned, would lead to legal action.

Ajulo condemned the retention of state assets following Akeredolu’s death, labeling it unacceptable and vowing to put an end to the practice.

He also criticized efforts to obstruct Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s inquiries, accusing some individuals of resorting to blackmail and unfounded allegations against the governor and his commissioners.

In a statement released in Akure, the state capital, Ajulo emphasized:
“One year after the untimely passing of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, a significant portion of the state’s assets remains unlawfully in private hands. This is unacceptable.

“During a review of the past year under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, I must assert that this is wrong and unsustainable. As the chief law officer of Ondo State, I am committed to ensuring that the state operates within the bounds of the constitution and its laws. Our regulatory and law enforcement agencies must uphold accountability.”

The Attorney General further alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration faced resistance when seeking accountability, with some interests accusing the government of tarnishing Akeredolu’s legacy and targeting his political and personal circles.

Ajulo urged those involved in asset misappropriation to return the properties or face legal consequences, adding:
“Instead of offering explanations, some of these individuals have chosen to launch media attacks, deflecting attention from their actions. This behavior will no longer be tolerated.”
