The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, at exactly 2:29 p.m. on Sunday at INEC’s headquarters in Akure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious with 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP, who received 117,845 votes. Adeyemi Nejo of the African Democratic Party (ADP) trailed with 4,138 votes.

Speaking to the press after the declaration, Ogungbuji claimed, “This is the final result, but I can tell you that the APC invested over N35 billion in vote-buying. If this is the future of this nation, then we are in serious trouble.”

He also raised concerns about missing elections at certain polling units in Idanre Local Government Area, though his concerns were dismissed at the collation center.

Ogungbuji hinted that Agboola Ajayi and the party would make a decision on their next steps in the coming days. “I will report back to him (Ajayi) and the party, and they will determine the next course of action in the next few days,” he said.

However, the APC’s state agent, Ade Adeogun, dismissed the vote-buying claims, calling them baseless excuses.

“You need to understand that throughout the electioneering process, we even complained that Ondo State was over-policed,” Adeogun said. “If they had any credible evidence, they should have reported it to the security agencies, and anyone involved in vote-buying would have been arrested.”

He continued, “Without evidence, you can’t just make these kinds of baseless accusations. They lost the election, and now they’re looking for something to blame. Let them ‘weep’ over their defeat, as they have every right to do so.”

Adeogun added, “It’s just an allegation. When you go to court, the burden of proof lies with the accuser. If only one of the 10 political parties is complaining, it’s clear that they’re still in pain from their loss. Let’s allow them time to accept that they lost because they didn’t deserve to win.”
